For the first time in Saudi Arabia, the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) will host Georges Bizet’s timeless masterpiece Carmen, performed by the acclaimed China National Opera House (CNOH). This landmark event forms part of the 2025 China–Saudi Arabia Cultural Year, marking 35 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Originally premiered in 1875, Bizet’s four-act opera remains one of the most celebrated works in classical music. The narrative follows the fiery and free-spirited Carmen and her complex relationship with soldier Don José, exploring themes of passion, jealousy, destiny, and betrayal.
Presented by CNOH, this historic Riyadh debut underscores RCRC’s ongoing efforts to enhance the city’s cultural offerings by introducing world-class performances, reflecting the aspirations of Saudi Vision 2030 to foster arts and creativity.
